Kerry Prosper (BA Hons StFX) is a gifted traditional knowledge holder with a specialization in customary medicines. He has administered to hundreds of people across North America seeking access to Mi’kmaq customary healing practices and ceremonies. Many seek Kerry’s wisdom. He acts as consultant to the Species at Risk Act (SARA) assessment programs of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Aboriginal Aquatic Resources and Oceans Management (AAROM) program. Kerry is an advisor to the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation and the St. Mary’s Salmon Association. He has participated in the creation of a series of educational videos, including “Seeking Netukulimk: Mi’kmaq Knowledge, Culture, Capacity and Empowerment.” Kerry Prosper has a broad spectrum of personal and professional experience respecting Mi’kmaq treaty negotiations and entitlements, natural resource use and management, and the revitalization of Mi’kmaq culture. Prosper served a Chief of the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Community for three and a half terms during the 1990s, and is currently serving as a Band Councilor. In these capacities, he has and continues to represent the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Community in a variety of treaty related negotiations and policy developments, particularly with respect to natural resource use and management. These positions have also closely immersed and engaged Prosper in the issues facing his people, as well as their needs. Kerry Prosper served as the Co-Chairman of the Mi’kmaq Fish and Wildlife Commission.
