Dr Sarina Loo is Director of the River and Wetland Health branch of the Department of Environment and Primary Industries in Victoria. Her work focuses on the development of river, estuary and wetland health policy and strategies and overseeing investment into waterway health management activities. She is committed to improving the health of Australia’s water environments through evidence-based public policy.
Sarina completed a Doctor of Philosophy in freshwater ecology in 2007, which focused on forecasting the distribution of freshwater invasive species. She won numerous awards for conference presentations on her PhD research.
Sarina lectured at the Swinburne University of Technology teaching a Land and Water Management module within a Graduate Certificate of Sustainability. She has also been an independent consultant to government and private business, providing a range of services from GIS and statistical analysis to farm management planning.
Sarina has a passion for improving communication between public policy makers and scientists to bring about a positive change in catchment management. To help her achieve that personal goal, she volunteers as a Director on the Board of the Peter Cullen Trust. Sarina also a Fellow of the Peter Cullen Trust after completing inaugural Peter Cullen Trust Leadership Program in 2010.
